Art Glass By BettsA few short years ago my husband Johnny and I re- located to Kentucky from Louisiana to be closer to family. After getting settled on a mini farming Casey County, Johnny I renovated an existing barn on the property into a small but efficient art glass studio.
While living in Louisiana, I became interested in stained glass as hobby. My initial plan being to make some glass for my home, and the occasional gift. Well, it wasn't long before I realized that this craft was not a hobby, but a lifestyle change. I applied for and was accepted as an apprentice at a working glass studio and continued through 5 years of work and study, advancing to head assembler and assistant installer. This gave me the necessary knowledge and experience to branch out on my own.
With the help of my multi-talented husband, this dream has become a reality. Johnny is a master craftsman in his own right. Working with his father, a master carpenter, Johnny developed his natural ability for woodworking and carving. Mostly self taught, Johnny has become interested in glass as a medium, and excels in glass design and glass carving. After years of working together, it was only natural that we would pool our experience and talent into ART GLASS BY BETTS. Everything in our studio is a collaboration of both our efforts and ability, even if it's only a word of encouragement between us.
We enjoy the multi- dimensional nature of glass. It allows us to lead it into a stained glass panel, to fuse it, slump it into bowls or platters, sandblast it, paint it, fire it, melt it in the flame of a torch, why, the possibilities are virtually endless. The use of one method or the combination of methods, to accomplish a finished art piece keeps it interesting, exciting, and always fun.
We design custom glass to meet the clients personal needs. By combining design elements, light, color, texture, and the clients desires, we can create a beautiful way to enhance your individual space and surroundings.
